Obviously, one day in Seville isn’t enough to see everything the city has to offer. It is the fourth-largest city in Spain after all. This one-day Seville itinerary is great for first-time visitors, though, because it gives you a list of the must-see sights.

Where to stay in Seville

Spending the night in Seville? It’s a very hot city during the summer, so you’ll want a hotel with air conditioning and a swimming pool. Also, I recommend staying in the old town because it’s within walking distance of most major sights.

When to visit Seville

Seville is the hottest city in Spain. In fact, it’s the warmest city in Continental Europe with summer average high temperatures of 35 °C (95 °F).

So if you can, avoid visiting in July and August, which are the hottest months.

The best time to visit Seville is from April to June and between September and October. Here’s a quick overview of the weather in Seville:

How to get around Seville in one day

The best way to get around Seville is to walk. Although Seville is the largest city in Andalusia and 4th largest in Spain, you can still walk across the city center in 45 minutes. You can also take the tram, metro, or buses around town.

Your 1 day Seville itinerary includes the best things to do in Seville. You’ll be walking a lot (unless you take the hop-on hop-off bus), so I recommend wearing comfortable shoes or sneakers. Also, make sure to start early so you have time to see it all.

1. Alcazar palace

Begin your day at the most important landmark in Seville: The Alcazar.

The Real Alcázar was the highlight of my trip to Seville. It’s both a UNESCO World Heritage site and the film location for Game of Thrones and trust me: it’s easy to see why!

Alcazar is incredibly beautiful and you feel like you’re in a different world. You know, like Dorne.

The palace dates back to 913 when it was under Moorish control, so you’ll find artistic styles such as ceramic tiles, gold ceilings, and charming colonnaded patios from the Arabic period all the way to the Renaissance and Baroque.

• Opening hours: 9.30-6pm (until 7pm in summer)
• Entrance fee: €13.50
• Guided tour with Viator (1.15 hour)

2. Seville Cathedral and Giralda Tower

Walk just two minutes from the Royal Alcázar and you’ll reach the Cathedral of Seville: a UNESCO World Heritage Site designated in 1987.

Seville Cathedral is the third largest cathedral in the world and the world’s largest Gothic cathedral, plus, it is also the final resting place of no other than the adventurous Christopher Columbus! So, this is a top attraction in Seville you shouldn’t miss!

Make sure to also visit La Giralda, the bell tower of the cathedral. When you reach the top, you’re rewarded with panoramic views of Seville from all angles.

3. Metropol Parasol (las Setas)

The Metropol Parasol is a large wooden structure designed by Jurgen Mayer, a notable German architect. It looks like mushrooms so in Spanish it’s called “Las Setas”, meaning “the mushrooms”.

You can take the elevator to the upper for panoramic views of Seville.

This attraction is definitely worth a visit, and there are some fun photo ops both from below and from the top level.

• Entrance fee: daytime € 5 and evening € 10 (free to watch from the outside of course)
• Opening hours: 9.30 am to midnight

4. Torre del Oro

Next up is Torre del Oro, a 13th-century military watchtower located on the banks of the Guadalquivir river in Seville. Its name, which means “Golden Tower,” comes from the golden reflections that the tower used to cast on the river.

The tower was part of the city’s defensive walls and was built during the Almohad period. Nowadays, the tower houses the Naval Museum of Seville, which showcases the city’s rich maritime history.

Torre del Oro is a must for history buffs and anyone interested in learning about Seville’s past.

• Opening hours: Monday to Friday: 09:30 – 18:45 / Weekends: 10:30 – 18:45

5. Santa Cruz neighbourhood

One of the best things to do in Seville is to simply walk around town. My favourite neighborhood was Santa Cruz district, which is in the historic centre where Alcazar is located.

Barrio Santa Cruz is Seville’s historic Jewish Quarter, and it’s a maze of narrow streets and alleyways that date back to medieval times.

After Ferdinand III conquered Sevilla, the Jewish population was confined to this quarter, until they were forced out of Spain in 1492. Over the following centuries, the area fell into disrepair, but was later restored in the 1900s. Now, it’s a beautiful and vibrant neighbourhood.

Make sure to spend some time walking the narrow streets, so you can admire the coloured houses, old churches, and charming squares with statues and fountains.

6. Plaza de Espana 

Another must-see destination in Seville is the Plaza de España, which lies in the Maria Luisa park!

With its beautiful brick, stone and tile work and unique blend of Renaissance Revival and Moorish Revival architecture, it should top your list of the best things to do in Seville. Plaza de Espana was constructed in 1928 and has the size of five football pitches, so you can easily spend an hour wandering around the place and taking a boat ride!

Another reason to visit is Star Wars.

Remember Attack of the Clones? The scene where Anakin Skywalker and Padmé (and R2-D2) take a walk on Naboo was shot here.

7. Eat tapas

You’ll have the best tapas in Seville. Trust me. Tapas bars are everywhere – classic and modern, cheap and delicious. You can eat tapas all day long if you want, and these are some of the best places to do just that:

• La Eslava has the best tapas in Seville – try the  juicy pork cheeks or the truffle cake! You guys know how I feel about truffles ♥ 
• La Brunilda is another great tapas bar with classic dishes at very budget-friendly prices.

8. Experience a Flamenco show

A flamenco show and tapas crawl are must-dos when you plan your one day in Seville. You can combine the two by taking an organised tour (⭐ 5/5).

Seville is where flamenco was born, so make sure to attend a show where you can discover Spanish culture up close. The dance, the hand-clapping, the plaintive music all make flamenco an exhilarating experience.
