Review: Grand Hotel Wien – An elegant 5-star hotel

Vienna is one of the most classic and beautiful cities in Europe, and I’m a huge fan. On a recent visit to this lovely place, I stayed at the Grand Hotel Wien, Vienna.

The hotel has a long, rich history dating back to 1870. But its contemporary and elegant ambiance makes it one of the most modern and luxurious hotels in Austria.

The fact that it’s located in the heart of Vienna; close to the opera and the Ringstrasse only adds to the grandeur.

My room at Grand Hotel Wien Vienna

I came to Grand Hotel Wien just in time for the weekend. After checking in, I was shown to the 4th floor where I’d stay for the following days.

My room was a 35 square meters Deluxe room, equipped with antique furniture, beautiful fabrics, two telephones (one in the bathroom), and a flat-screen TV.

The luxurious bathroom was made of marble and had a double wash basin. Most of it was accented with glistening gold, from the door knobs to the sink faucets and the towel rack.

It gave me a super luxurious feeling and I felt like a superstar.

The gold styling reminded me of a hotel I stayed at in Dubai a few years ago. And not surprisingly, this hotel is owned by a sheik.

Champagne for breakfast

The Grand Hotel Vienna has a total of four restaurants, a bar, and a lobby coffee lounge. It also includes a shopping mall.

The breakfast buffet is served in the Grand Brasserie on the first floor and it’s a lovely breakfast. On weekends they even serve champagne!

What’s great about this breakfast is that the buffet has a very wide range of international dishes.

The hotel caters not only to its European guests but also to those from the Middle East and Japan with dishes like olives, humus, and miso soup.

I also went to the Grand Brasserie for lunch and had the classic Wiener schnitzel, which is a must in Vienna. I had it with potatoes (Vogerlsalat), parsley, and lemon.

The spa and gym

The most impressive room in the Grand Hotel was the 200-square-meter Grand Spa.

It includes a sauna and steam bath, a separate women’s area with its own sauna, a relaxation zone, a gym, and a comprehensive range of massage and beauty treatments.

Next to the sauna is the spa’s steam bath. I quite liked the shimmering spangled sky.

Final thoughts of Grand Hotel Wien

All in all, my stay at Hotel Grand Wien was incredible. I truly enjoyed the luxury style, especially the gilded staircase and beautiful crystal chandeliers in the mosaic marble foyer. It’s so elegant.

The food was lovely as well as the service. There’s no doubt, I would definitely come back!

  1. We stayed at Kempinski Hotel Khan Palace, in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia’s capital.. The room was about the size of our house, and we’d been wild camping for the previous 18 nights, so it was absolutely wonderful, I think we showered for about an hour each, went for a massage in the spa, and then out for sushi in the hotel’s japanese restaurant – bliss!
